Historical hat-trick: Hjørring Futsal Club takes third Danish championship in a row

William Gantzhorn and his teammates from Hjørring Futsal Club once again secured the Danish championship after a dramatic final series, where the team from northern Jutland had to go into three close matches before the gold was in the house. Thus, the club makes history with its third championship in a row.

Among the profiles on the winning team is William Gantzhorn, who has his futsal roots in Greenland. For him, the triumph has a special meaning.

– It means incredibly much to me to be part of winning the Danish championship for the third year in a row. It is the culmination of a lot of hard work throughout the season, and that makes it extra special that we were able to secure the title on home soil in Hjørring in front of a sold-out hall, he says.

The support from the audience was massive. According to Gantzhorn, the tickets were snapped up in just ten seconds – clear proof of the growing interest in futsal in the city.

The final series against Albertslund IF developed into an intense affair. Hjørring started with an away defeat, but the team managed to turn the series around.

– We lost the first match in Albertslund, but fortunately the final is played best of three. We kept the faith, not least because we had the home field advantage. We won the last two matches 4-3, and that says everything about how close and intense it was right up until the last second, he explains.

With the championship, Hjørring Futsal Club cements its position as the country's leading futsal team. At the same time, the triumph sends a clear signal – also to young people in Greenland: The road to the top is possible, even with roots far from the big arena.
