The Greenlandic Taekwon-Do athletes have arrived in Crete, where this year's European Championships will be held from Tuesday to Saturday this week.

The national team has had plenty of time to prepare, and the tul athletes in particular have honed their form at a joint training session last week organized by the association, the association writes in a press release.

Greenland is fielding five athletes this year, divided between tul and freestyle. Inukkuluk G. Lennert and Angutinnguaq J. Nielsen are both participating in tul for seniors, while Arnaaluk Frederiksen is competing in the junior division. Maasi Davidsen will compete in freestyle in the under 78 kilo weight class, and Lars Lennert Abelsen will compete in tul for athletes over 35 years of age.

At last year's European Championships, Greenland won two bronze medals, won by Angutinnguaq Nielsen and Lars Lennert Abelsen - results that the team hopes to build on this year.

New rules may have an impact

According to national coach Louis Nielsen, preparations have been targeted towards the championship, where the athletes have worked, among other things, to adapt to international standards.

- The athletes have trained well for the European Championships, and in the past six months they have spent the time adapting to the techniques and competition forms used in the matches. They have done so with great success.

- At the same time, this year's European Championships will be held according to new competition rules, so it will be exciting to see how the competitions will proceed. However, there is no doubt that the athletes will do their best to represent Greenland, says Louis Nielsen.

Alongside the competitions, the President of the Greenland Taekwon-Do Federation, Vivi G. Lennert, will participate in the European Federation's general assembly.
